Mussel Fest 2010 - Coupeville

It's hard to believe that we've already been living on Whidbey Island for over a year! When we first got to Oak Harbor last March we knew nobody and had nowhere to go. So, when we saw an advertisement for "Mussel Fest" in Coupeville, we figured we'd make the 10 minute drive south and see what it was all about. It was either that or sit in our hotel room...clearly worth a shot!

Penn Cove is one of the nations largest producers of mussels so each year they hold the festival where local restaurants compete in a "best chowder" competition and visitors get to be the judge. Unfortunately Bobby and I didn't get tickets in time to be a part of the judging but luckily they also sell beer and good old fashioned steamed mussels to the rest of us.

With a beautiful blue sky and unseasonably warm weather came large crowds but we were happy to wait in line and hang out with some friends of ours, Rebecca and Casey Elbare. The Elbare's are fairly new to the squadron and Whidbey Island so this was their first trip to the festival. Hopefully we'll all be there again same time next year!
